Citizens for the Future of Ft. Negley Park
Oct 9, 2017
Friends of Parks, of Green Space, of Rational Thinking in a Time of Tremendous Growth! Thank you for joining us - in person and in spirit - on Friday at noon as Historic Nashville made an unprecedented departure from its annual "Nashville 9" Historic places threatened by development - to NAME JUST ONE -- Ft. Negley. Wow! What a statement to our out-of-touch Mayor & City Councilman Colby Sledge who continue to support placing nearly 300 apartments on this hallowed parkland - to effectively turn Ft. Negley Park into a "dog park" for those friends lucky enough to be picked to live in these apartments.... No one disputes that more affordable housing is needed - but as a District 17 resident myself, I can tell you we are TRIPLING the density of development on the 30PLUS acres in our district controlled by MDHA (designated for HOUSING, not PARKLAND!) and I can tell you our own City Councilman Colby Sledge sponsored the legislation to turn property at the corner of 12/Wedgewood into affordable & workforce housing. We are doing our part to address this need through the appropriate channels - using historic parkland is NOT the way forward! We are looking for 300 more signatures! Please share this petition. When we reach 2,771 signatures we will close the petition - as we will have, through entirely volunteer efforts, matched the number of conscripted and freed African Americans who worked, built, and (many) died to preserve our union. Let us find as many friends, young and old, willing to put their name on this list to the Mayor and Councilman Sledge. Keep the faith, read letters of people more learned than I here: www.savenashvilleparks.org. In hope that our city leaders believe that every voice matters. Know that yours does to me, Alice Ganier Rolli District 17 Resident
