The survivor's encounter with the perpetrator, Frank Shelden, began in the early spring of 1976, when the survivor was 12 years old, almost 13.

The initial meeting occurred at a Kresge store in Detroit, near the 7 Mile and Gratiot area. The survivor approached Shelden simply by asking him for the time. Shelden provided the time, then stated that since he had done the survivor a favor, the survivor could do one for him. He requested the survivor's phone number, offering to take him to see a motocross event at the Silverdome.

The first outing involved being taken to a service station at 9 Mile and Ryan (in the general Warren, MI area), which was reportedly owned by a friend of Shelden's, so Shelden could work on his car. During this visit, the survivor met two other men, one of whom he later believed to be Chris Busch.

In early April 1976, Shelden followed through on his promise and took the survivor to the Silverdome for the motocross event. The sexual assault occurred on the way home from this outing.

Following the assault, Shelden asked the survivor if he would like to go camping on an island in Lake Michigan. However, the relationship did not progress further because Shelden fled the area in July 1976, a circumstance the survivor believes prevented further interactions.

The survivor, years later, gained confidence in the perpetrator's identity after being shown evidence and documentation related to Frank Shelden. He has since participated in a documentary about Shelden and the associated investigations.

He supports this memorial effort and any effort aimed to raise awareness for child abuse and/or exploitation.

In light of his testimony, I've decided to remove the phrase "on this island" from the proposed plaque text.

This simple means is a reflection of the widespread abuse and impact Shelden, Richards, Grossman and others had.
