Objections to Council Meeting on 9th October 2018

DO YOU WANT AN AFL SIZED OVAL ON THIS PARKLAND?
The Council hearing will be on 9th October at 7pm In the Council Chambers at Lilydale. IT IS STILL NOT TOO LATE FOR YOU TO OBJECT to the oval. They are counting the number of submissions made directly to the council and dividing them into for and against the proposal. The footballers are well organised and there are currently 121 for and just 51 opposed. If this is not a true representation of the overall wishes of the community as a whole, what are YOU going to do about it? Council has told us that they do not take a great deal of notice of petitions through Change.org, as they are do not know where people live!

The Oval would measure 155m x 120m almost the size of the MCG! It would involve the loss of many mature trees, the levelling of the ground, lights and goalposts and  planting of turf unattractive to the extensive the wildlife that come to graze at night.  Off lead dog walkers will be required to go down the steep slope to an allocated area below. This is a near impossibility for many people of limited mobility and not attractive to others. The whole project is being rushed through because of a State election in November 2018 and is funded by State money, raised by James Merlino, Deputy Premier of Victoria who is very keen to keep his marginal seat in Parliament. He wants the footballers' votes. No serious consultation has been allowed to occur and any suggestions made by The Hills Common Alliance have been ignored.
