Shingles vaccine added to the immunsation schedule

The MSD herpes zoster vaccine Zostavax has been added to the NZ Immunisation Schedule for 65 year olds. This was predicted by discussions of the Immunisation Subcommittee that because of the increase in shingles brought about by reduced incidence of natural chickenpox in the community, which provides boosters to the immunity of those who have previously had chickenpox it would be necessary to bring in the shingles vaccine.
