UPDATE ON OWEN HAISLEY & OTHERS + ACTION PLANS:
On Tuesday evening, Owen's deportation was halted. It is however possible that the Home Office will still try to deport him and those who remain at Harmondsworth IRC in the short term. At present, Owen remains detained indefinitely - so the fight is far from over.
Owen and his campaign team thank you for your amazing support so far and request that you cease from donating any further funds to the Change.org campaign - as we've now reached the landmark of 100,000 signatures! We will update you again very soon.
However 29 men were on that plane. It left Birmingham Airport at 1.43pm. They have now landed and are in Harman Barracks, Kingston.
We are urgently exploring legal options for Owen and the other men with him, with the intention to secure their release from Harmondsworth IRC, where they are being held.
We need to continue public support and pressure. The threat of deportation has not gone away for Owen and those with him.
1) Watch this video. Listen to Owen's family. Listen to his voice. (credit to 21st Century Tribe).
2) The Change.org online petition worked. We now ask people to STOP donating to the petition - as the money goes to Change.org to pay for advertising the petition (it does not go to the campaign or towards Owen's legal costs). Over 100,000 people have signed it, which is a fantastic result, but we now must focus on using this to maintain media interest to keep Owen and the other men in the public eye, while they remain detained indefinitely.
2) We need to maintain political pressure on both parties.
If you haven't yet written to you local MP, please do so.
If you live (or know someone who does) in a Conservative constituency, mobilise your friends and family.
We need MP's from both sides of the House to call for his release.
Further updates to follow.
Owen, his family and friends send their sincerest thanks for all the support.
Keep fighting for people power!
