Why this petition matters

Started by Laura Kayes

Hossein is a teenage Iranian Kurd who had to flee his home in September 2015. His father was murdered by the government for his political beliefs when Hossein was a young child, his brother was arrested by armed men who broke into the family home and has not been heard from since, and he has had no contact with his mother since she made the heart wrenching decision to send Hossein to the U.K. for his safety.

Hossein lived in the Dunkirk refugee camp for nearly 11 months, where he survived harsh and frightening conditions, including many arrests and beatings from both police and smugglers. He was eventually able to gain access to a refrigerated lorry bound for England, and made the gruelling journey in -20 degree temperatures.

Hossein is currently living with foster carers and is a performing arts student at Leeds City College, where he is excelling practically, academically and socially. So much so, he was granted the college’s prestigious Student of the Year award in his first year.

Hossein is a valued member of the college student body and the city of Leeds. He participates fully, gratefully and dynamically in every opportunity offered both within college and the local community, and conducts himself with eternal optimism and warmth for those around him.

The home office have ruled Hossein safe to return to his home country. We do not believe this to be true, and it is imperative that he is allowed to stay where he is valued, and most importantly, safe.
