Hi all, I just wanted to reach out to let you know we’ve just passed 1,546 signatures on our petition! Thank you so much for your support! Will you help us to get more support by sharing this petition with your Hollywood friends, family, and neighbors? There may be 3 opportunities for you to comment in person about this terrible proposal to allow developers to build a 30 story private condo tower on our beautiful public land on the barrier island. The first opportunity to speak in person in front of the city commission and staff will be 9 am on September 1st at the CRA meeting in City Hall, 2nd floor. The second opportunity will be at the regular city meeting at 1 pm on August 25th, City Hall, 2nd floor. It will most likely be an agenda item at this 1 pm meeting, so sign up to speak just before the meeting begins. You can also come for Citizen Comments at 5 pm on August 25th, City Hall, 2nd floor. Citizen Comments allows you 3 minutes to speak about any topic. You must sign up at 5 pm by filling out a speaker card and handing it to the city clerk in the front of the room.
Please also email the city commission asking them not to go forward with this project or at least allow it to be put to a vote by the citizens of Hollywood. If this is such a great deal/great idea, then they shouldn't be afraid to put it to a city-wide vote. This project is not a done deal, and we need everyone's help in fighting it. This is a beautiful part of our public beach, with mature green dunes that should not be meddled with. Letting developers touch anything east of Surf Road is despicable. We do not want to lose our blue sky to a private tower that will cast a shadow on our beach and block our sunsets forever. With sea level rise and storm surge, the barrier island is the worst place to build a tower to place hundreds and hundreds of more residents.
Follow Surfrider Foundation Broward County Chapter on facebook for further updates. There is also a facebook page called "NO private condo tower on Hollywood public beach."
Thank you.
