Hello everyone!
One of the biggest battles related to the campaign to amend the CDA involves websites claiming all postings on their sites represent freedom of speech--let’s talk about that.
“Images of child pornography [abuse images] are not protected under First Amendment rights, and are illegal contraband under federal law.” -Citizen’s Guide to US Federal Law on Child Pornography (https://www.justice.gov/criminal-ceos/citizens-guide-us-federal-law-child-pornography)
Child sexual abuse images [pornography] are not protected by the First Amendment.
Therefore instances in which websites allow images of girls (or boys) in advertisements for prostitution and those girls are under the age of 18, not only are they victims of human trafficking but the images are in fact child sexual abuse images [pornography] and are not protected by the First Amendment.
Furthermore, profiting from criminal activity such as human trafficking is not protected by the First Amendment.
In addition to the video from the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, there is also a guide: https://www.justice.gov/criminal-ceos/citizens-guide-us-federal-law-obscenity that can help answer additional questions that you may have.
In our quest to urge Congress to amend the CDA in order to better protect minors from trafficking and to allow SAVE (part of the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/senate-bill/178/text) to be upheld, we encourage you to continue sharing the petition and having conversations about the realities of human trafficking.
Thank you for your support and efforts that have already carried us this far! Thank you for fighting for freedom!
Sincerely,
