Dear Supporters,
Thank you for signing the petition to improve pedestrian safety along the Ferguson St corridor Williamstown. Thank you also for your many comments on specific issues and advice on this petition. I want to update you on progress so far.
Council have recently received black spot funding to upgrade the crossing across Ferguson St just East of Melbourne Rd which is terrific news. This project will be going out to community consultation later this year so you’ll have an opportunity to participate then. I’ll be sharing the link to provide feedback when available.
The petition was received at the October Council Meeting with a recommendation for a further report on this matter at a future Council Meeting. Comments by a number of the Councillors at the meeting indicated their awareness of the pedestrian safety risk particularly on the Melbourne Rd intersection. I will be following up with the Capital Works Department at Council to see how it is progressing.
As VicRoads manage the Melbourne Rd / Ferguson St intersection the petition was also sent to VicRoads and to our local member of Parliament Melissa Horne MP who has written to the Minister Carroll MP Minister for Roads and Road Safety on the issue. As a result VicRoads will conduct a pedestrian count in school term 1 2022. This is to give an indication of how many pedestrians use the crossing. Watch out for my update on when the count will be occurring.
