HM QE II, PM Cameron, HE Gov. Haywood, Mr. Biles, President Kirchner: Organize a Winter Olympics in the Falklands

The Issue

The Falkland Islands should be a land of permanent peace.
Renewed efforts are now already well under way to accomplish
this goal. We, the undersigned, ask that tacit agreement between
the Governments of Argentina and the United Kingdom (actually,
both countries seem to be Queendoms recently) or verbal or
written agreements be established, allowing for such an idea to
proceed. The Falklands has enough land and sheltered water
for a Winter Olympics. The Winter Olympics in the Southern
Hemisphere can be held at the same time as the Summer
Olympics in the Northern Hemisphere, or right afterward or
right beforehand. The participation of Argentina in such
a Winter Olympics would go far to burying the hatchet;
and furthermore, this particular site could begin a new
trend in the Olympic athletic lineup: the introduction of
dolphins as competitors in the Olympics, for the first
time. The Falklands' contingent of marine athletes,
known as Peale's Dolphins, are among the most
naturally playful and athletically skilled animals on
the face of the earth. There are also trained and
trainable birds, such as the Falkland falcons.
Due to humanitarian issues, the best way to
introduce the concept might be to limit animal
participation in the Olympics to local species.
The only problem with this idea is that even
though dolphins can stand up, it is as difficult
to get the beribboned medals around their necks
as it is to get the Olympic ribbons with the gold
medals to stay on their necks!
.
We, the undersigned, call upon Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth the 2nd, Prime Minister
David Cameron, His Excellency
Governor Nigel Haywood, Speaker of the
Falklands Legislative Assembly Keith Biles,
and President Cristina Kirchner of the
Republic of Argentina, to agree that a
suitable home to host a Winter Olympics
should be constructed in the Falklands, and
that such construction should proceed at
a deliberate and orderly pace.
.
If Argentina and Great Britain can agree to
co-operate in this venture, and to promote and
protect, and not frustrate or defame the
self-determination
of the people of the Falklands
in this well-defined and limited context,
then it may be but a short step to the
permanent peace with fairness to come.
