Petition to
HM Government of Gibraltar

Why this petition matters

This Petition urges the Government of Gibraltar to urgently address Gibraltar’s Carbon responsibilities in order to meet its declared Climate Emergency Pledge. We call for a totally independent Climate Body, funded and tasked to roll out a cross-party supported agenda, set in a time frame that legally binds all future administrations. The areas the petitioners wish to see addressed include: action on Pollution / Waste / Energy / Transport & Development.

The agenda for the independent climate body should include transitioning away from fossil fuels, tackling pollution, harnessing all suitable renewable energy technologies, expansion of green areas to include retro planting along walls and pavements, protection of all existing carbon sinks, evaluation of development impacts, and action on traffic and transport. We call for public engagement and participation in this process.

This Petition is supported by all the undersigned as well as: The Nautilus Project (TNP), The Environmental Safety Group (ESG), the Gibraltar Ornithological & Natural History Society (GONHS), Pollution Watch and Sustainable Gibraltar, with more organisations expected to join. The Petition will be handed to Government on the 20th September, after the ‘Parents’ Strike for Future’, which is being organised in Gibraltar to coincide with a global movement taking place the same day
