We are now a 67,000+ strong team of crusaders championing the cause of Dignity in Floods! Your support gives me hope that we will make change happen.
Yesterday, in his Independence Day speech our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the importance of women’s hygiene and the importance of sanitary napkins. I would like to thank him because for a Prime Minister to talk about menstruation from the Red Fort is certainly a first.
But what about lakhs of girls and women of Assam caught in floods every year? Some are forced to bleed on their clothes!
I can’t wait for another flood season to go by with no action from the Assam government. I have a few actions planned for this week to make us heard:
- I will be hosting a Twitter conversation on this issue. Check our Facebook page for updates.
- I am planning to send a special gift to the Assam government. Look out for updates on this soon!
One year ago, the Disaster Management Minister told the media the government is not distributing pads as these are not mentioned in the list of relief material provided to flood shelters. This is ridiculous!
I’m demanding the Assam government to include pads in the list of relief material provided to flood shelters. I had written to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma the Finance and Health Minister of Assam last year and I wrote to him again this month. I have received no response to my emails.
We need more people to join us to make ourselves heard! Do share my petition far and wide. CLICK HERE to share.
I also look forward to your suggestions. Please leave any in comments below.
Stay well. Thank you for your support,
Mayuri
PS: Good news is that I have come across reliable local manufacturers of eco-friendly sanitary pads in Assam such as The Eco Hub . Such local businesses can be engaged by the government to supply pads to shelters which in turn will also give a boost to local economy.
