SCDOT Files Corridor Draft with Federal Authorities Without Informing Citizens of Plan Selected --- Local Watchdogs Respond with a Federal Filing.
According to Craig Winn, SCDOT Program Manager: “The EA (Environmental Assessment) has been submitted to FHWA for technical review but will not formally be submitted to FHWA until mid to late June.”
When asked: Which plan and intersection plan did you recommend, he responded: “I can not release those until it is signed by FHWA. Once they have signed the document we will be free to discuss the preferred alternative and the final intersection plan.”
This struck our group as unfair since SCDOT would have one-sided access to FHWA without resident’s views receiving equal time.
Furthermore, resident comments would likely then have to go through SCDOT, who tend to nod their heads and then relegate our comments to an Appendix.
Most important, despite running for about 2 years, the SCDOT process has not yet demonstrated that it can produce a transparent, quantitative, viable, or trusted product appropriate to our Town.
Much more information is in our Federal Comments at the link shown.
