We ask the Higher Learning Commission to revoke or suspend UW-Madison’s accreditation on moral grounds until it terminates all maternal deprivation research on monkeys, subject to re-instatement in 2018.

The Issue

  1. Primates are intelligent sentient beings, and maternal deprivation is equivalent to child abuse.
  2. The animal-research model is based on laws that inaccurately describe the true moral status of animals as sentient beings with natural rights.  These rights should be protected by law.
  3. The animal-research model is not scientifically productive or reliable. There are much more accurate and reliable non-animal-model methods being developed and which COULD be more quickly developed with diverted funds.
  4. The animal-research model is a waste of taxpayer money.
