My name is Zoe Dronfield. On the 2nd of February 2014 I was meant to be dead. Murdered. He is a serial perpetrator. I did not know this. The police did. His family did. His ex-partners and also victims did. A currently serving police officer and also his victim did and warned the court ‘he is a dangerous man who will kill someone one day’ So, the courts knew too! However, his behaviour went undetected and was allowed to escalate to murder.... almost. I was held hostage for over 8 hours. I was tortured. I was stamped on until my head was so swollen my face was unrecognisable. I had a bleed on the brain. I was stabbed and slashed numerous times, one stab wound just 1mm from my jugular vein meaning I would only have 4 minutes to live. I had my tendons completely severed in the back of my left hand by numerous stab wounds, the force of the blade almost went through my whole hand as the inside of my palm was bruised where the knife almost pierced the skin from the other side - these were defence wounds from trying to protect my face. My right arm was also completely snapped. I had slash and lacerations to my torso, chin, nose, shoulder. I was found half naked, from the waist down. In and out of consciousness, holding onto life having lost over 2 pints of blood. He had filled the bath with water to clean his murder weapons and get rid of the evidence; a meat cleaver and an 8inch knife. He messaged my friends using my phone pretending to be me and to give the impression that I was still ‘alive’ I’m lucky. I got away. I pleaded for my life. He was pretending to kill himself. "We are going together" "I'm not going anywhere I have 2 children" was my response. I escaped with my life and my children still have a mother (I am thankful every day for this, my mother died when I was 6) I survived. Many do not. This has to stop. Lives are devastated. Families torn apart. Yet this continues to happen at a pandemic proportion in the UK. Stalking is not being recognised as a prerequisite to murder. It is still seen as some sort of joke yet 40% of all domestic homicides, the victims have been stalked prior to being killed. Currently laws only deal with incidents in isolation and this means the pattern is missed, over-looked, minimised. Yet the victim lives in fear of their life daily, every minute of every day knowing they are being watched – hunted – yet the police do not have the power/law to proactively reduce the harrowing statistics of today so the perpetrators behaviour escalates. Their fixation becomes stronger. The obsession they harbour is allowed to take over. We need to deal with them before this happens. Please help our campaign to tighten laws.
