A Glimpse of High Park On Sunday March 9th.

It was good to see visitors enjoying the sunny day in High Park, walking in from Bloor on Colborne Lodge Drive around noon on such a beautiful day.

However,  on the twenty minute walk in it was  distressing to see so few visitors, only six cyclists and a few couples walked by, no family groups, there were a number of joggers and runners using both the road and bike path- maybe the  bike path should be dedicated to them on  weekends…..At the Café, only twelve people were enjoying a repast, and by 1.30 pm this had only increased to 37  including  a group of 15….Before the Covid closures and subsequent weekend closures to vehicles and removal of parking spaces,  this 240 seat restaurant was often full and required one to wait in line for some time to get seated. The Café attendance is indicative of the lack of visitors to the many of the venues in the park- even the animals at the Zoo are lonely.

The weekend vehicle closure (soon to be 7 days a week) and the removal of half the parking lots has made the park inaccessible and has decimated the park attendance. Parks are for people-The City Council needs to reconsider this closure and open up High Park seven days a week….….

Please be at our next Rally......
