PROTEST RALLY against the WEEKEND CAR BAN in High Park, this coming Saturday

WHERE:  Bloor Street Entrance to High Park WHEN:  Saturday, July 6,  11:00 AM

There will be a supply of brightly coloured signs that will be available to you, first come first serve.  OR, you can create your own signs.

Bring along some friends and family members, representing the different ages of people regularly visiting the park (picnickers, family outings, sports players, swimmers, students, disabled, gardeners, hikers, coffee drinkers, dog walkers, seniors on outings,  etc. etc.

We need LOTS of people to show up...to make loudly public, the destructive decisions recently made (May, 2023) by Toronto City Council!  There is always  strength in numbers!

MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT AWARE OF THE CHANGES HAPPENING TO HIGH PARK.   Unless you happen to visit the park on a weekend, you will likely not even be aware of the decision to ban all cars.  And certainly, you will likely not be aware of the plan to ban all cars SEVEN DAYS A WEEK in the near future.

We need to broadcast this shocking news to the whole city!  This will set a precedent for other parks, which will also become inaccessible.

Attendance in High Park now appears to be down by about two thirds on weekends, very sad.  The Grenadier Restaurant has lost 80% of its weekend business. Have a look for yourself.  Neighbourhoods are now clogged with cars from frustrated visitors trying to access the park.

This must be rectified in a variety of ways…emails to your Councillors and  highparkmove@toronto.ca,.  Also, protest rallies, community group action etc.   It will not go away on its own.

City Council has already voted 22 - 7  for a completely car-free park, a very misguided form of environmentalism. A pristine park without people is not a commendable or sensible objective.

PLEASE…we hope to see you at the PROTEST RALLY on July 6.  Bring your enthusiasm and all your family & friends, the more the merrier.

Unfortunately, you will have to come by TTC or park your car in the distant neighbourhood…no cars allowed in the park!
