We THOUGHT that the LAX traffic was from the Southern and Central American countries. Looks like NOW we get traffic from all over the world. The FAA is now sending tons more traffic to LAX right over our heads (24/7) here in Huntington Beach.
This LAX traffic is just one of the issues we face. We also have low and loud inbound Long Beach traffic from the east and from the west. We have low and loud inbound John Wayne traffic coming in off the ocean right over downtown and heading across the city. And we have more...just watch any flight tracker and you'll see this happening, often in real-time as you hear the planes screaming overhead.
Please don't feel helpless! Make sure you let the Huntington Beach City Council know that it's important to you for them to keep this issue front and center. Write to your Senators. Tell your neighbors to get engaged and involved (point them to StopTheJetNoise.com and have them sign our petition). Monitor and show up at the HB City Council meetings and speak up, let your concerns be heard!
If we don't work hard at this collectively it will get much, much worse over the years to come and we will be know as the "Jetway to LAX". Let's not have to change our name from SurfCity to JetCity!
With City Council elections coming up, engage those up for re-election or those running for office. Ask them where this issue sits on their priority list. If they don't live in an affected area, invite them over for coffee so they can look up and listen. MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE ISSUE AND HAVE EXPERIENCED IT FIRST HAND!
We have got to get a whole lot tougher and smarter on our approach to this problem. If we don't the FAA wins and we lose not only sleep at night but we lose what so many of us for so many years and decades have experienced...a truly great place to live.
