Please Sign Our New Petition & Attend the NCWRC Virtual Meeting tonight @ 7 PM (EST).
If the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) votes in favor of the proposal to open up the Pisgah, Panthertown-Bonas Defeat, and Standing Indian Bear Sanctuaries, bears will have nowhere to retreat when fleeing hunters or dogs, and the bears living within these sanctuaries will no longer be safe in the place they’ve called home for over 50 years. These sanctuaries were established to protect bears and critical habitat from hunting, logging, settlement, and development. Hunting in bear sanctuaries goes against the basis for establishing bear sanctuaries in the first place. Furthermore, human-induced conflicts with bears are not grounds for opening up bear sanctuaries to hunting, especially when hunting does not resolve bear-human conflicts or encounters.
