Petition updateHelp Us Save Our Community KitchenThe kitchen is officially closing, but the fight was not in vain

After weeks of advocacy, calls, letters, and community support, we’ve received confirmation that the DSAL Community Kitchen will officially close on July 1, 2025. The final day of operations will be June 30.

While this is not the outcome we were hoping for, I’m incredibly proud of the collective effort made by so many people: vendors, customers, community leaders, and supporters like you. Your signatures, shares, and advocacy showed the County how much this kitchen meant to all of us.

The County has shared that they plan to reopen the facility in the future under a new department, continuing its mission of supporting small business and entrepreneurship in Alameda County, although the timeline and structure for that reopening remains unclear.

In the meantime, the County has committed to creating a financial support fund for vendors who are losing access to the kitchen. This funding is intended to help offset lost income and assist with the transition to new spaces.

For now, we’re doing our best to transition, find new kitchens, and keep our businesses alive. Though this chapter is closing, we are not done building. We’re still here, cooking, creating, and pushing forward.

Thank you again for standing with us. Your support reminded us that we are not alone in this.

With deep gratitude,
Danielle Crespo
