Tomorrow morning our Parliament’s Social Development Portfolio Committee will try to find out how the Department of Social Development (DSD) intends averting the crisis of expiring foster care orders in light of the looming November 2019 deadline imposed by the Court. The Children’s Amendment Bill 2019 has been said to contain the legal solution to this crisis – but is unlikely to be revived in time. Here’s hoping for answers to questions that directly affect vulnerable children in South Africa - and their constitutional rights. Members of the public are welcome to observe (but not participate).
