It has recently come to my attention that the number of surplus NZLAVs could actually be 40 in total. Evidence for this can be found in the attached Stuff article from 2020 where our former defence minister, Ron Mark, said "as many as 40 might prove fit for sale or modification."

Based on this, after the finalisation of the sale of 22 vehicles to Chile, there are actually up to 18 NZLAVs that could be donated to Ukraine - not an insignificant number at all.

I think this is partly because New Zealand is receiving 43 Bushmaster armoured vehicles from Australia later this year. Technically this vehicle is a replacement for the Pinzgauer truck that the NZ army uses, but in reality it probably will replace the NZLAV in some roles also.

I have slightly updated the wording of the petition to reflect this.

On a side note, we are approaching the milestone of 1500 supporters. When that happens I will send another message to parliament.
