I had a conversation the other day with someone who asked me a simple question: “Who can I write to in support of Tom?”

It stopped me in my tracks. Last month we entered his fourth year serving a wrongful conviction. I’ve felt like most people around me have quietly accepted that he’ll serve out his full sentence. In many ways, I’ve had to make peace with that reality too. But I’ve never believed it had to be the final word.

When Tom was sentenced in 2021, I thought there were only two paths: either wait out five years of injustice, or fight to bring him home early. I chose to fight, and I’ve poured everything into that effort. For years I’ve carried the responsibility of pushing petitions, gathering support, and putting it all in front of those in power. Despite the incredible encouragement from so many of you, it has never been enough to break through the silence of the Governor’s office or the District Attorney.

But in that recent conversation, something clicked: there is a third path. It doesn’t have to just be me. What if others reached out directly? What if they heard not only my voice, but yours?

So today I’m asking for help. Tom has a year left, but I believe so much can still happen in that time.
