Dear Community,
We finally have answers. After months of being ignored ("ghosted"), the City Mayor and Council have confirmed why they tried to sell our community centre down the river and why it failed.
1. The "Commercial" Bidder Ran Away The Council rejected our community bid last year because they wanted to chase cash. They selected a private commercial "Day Care" operator instead. But here is the truth: That commercial operator pulled out of the deal in December. Why? Because after doing "due diligence" (surveys), they realized what we already knew: the building needs too much work. A profit-focused business won't touch it.
2. The Building sits EMPTY while Crime Spikes So now, the Council has an empty building. They are paying the bills for a ghost town. Meanwhile, drug dealing and knife crime in the West End are spiralling out of control. We have offered a solution a boxing gym to get youth off the streets and "live-in security" for the building but they are still hesitating.
3. The Evictions are STILL Happening Despite the deal falling through, the Council is still planning to evict the Asian Lunch Seva (our elders) and church groups by March 31st. They would rather have an empty building than a community hub.
WE ARE FIGHTING BACK. Because the commercial deal failed, the building is back on the market. We are submitting a new bid on February 27th.
We are telling the Council: “You tried the commercial route, and it failed. We are the only ones willing to put in the hard work to fix this building. Give it to the people who care, not the profit-chasers who run away.”
HOW YOU CAN HELP (The Final Push) We are currently at 1,100 signatures. If we reach 1,500 signatures, WE CAN Debate them. They cannot hide in private meetings anymore. All 54 Councillors will have to look us in the eye and explain why they prefer an empty building over a thriving community centre.

There’s a chance to stay in the community! We are trying to win the tender for the West End Centre on Andrew Street
I know its been a while since we updated this however since then we have passed 1000 signatures, We have not given up and negotiated a community space at the Fosse Neighbourhood Centre not to long ago. This did not happen in the end due to building alterations that the council estimated £50,000 cost for the removal of a small wall, that would open up the space.
