Early voting has begun for the Primary Election on Tuesday, June 7th, which will include the vote for our District 6 City Council representative. The elected Councilmember will play a vital role in the Community Plan Update process, so it is critical we make the choice that is right for our neighborhood!

University City was recently redistricted to District 6. Candidates are Jane Glasson, Tommy Hough, and Kent Lee. The top two candidates from this primary will move on to the November ballot, and one of them will be our new council member after the November 2022 election, when UC will officially join District 6.
University City is undergoing a Community Plan update process. The updated Community Plan will eventually go before the City Council for final approval, so the selection of a City Council member who represents our neighborhood’s best interests is important. The City's recent proposal to rezone single-family residential properties in south UC to townhomes in the updated Community Plan was withdrawn after strong pushback from the community. But the City still has plans to increase density significantly in UC. We must continue to monitor the Plan update process in order to ensure that our community concerns are respected and any proposals to rezone existing single-family residential housing stay out of our Community Plan update. We will need a City Council representative that we can count on to speak up for our neighborhood and to vote accordingly on the final plan next year.
When the forums were held, the rezoning proposal was still on the table, and each candidate had different responses to this topic and to the subject of housing development. Please keep these issues in mind as you cast your vote. Let's be sure our community has a strong voice in District 6 right from the start, beginning with this Primary Election.
Thank you,
