Wikie and Keijo and 4 dolphins are still waiting in Marineland Antibes. Their future remains uncertain, and there is no completed relocation plan for them. Their condition and the state of their tanks have raised serious concerns. They cannot simply be released into the wild. They were born in captivity and have depended on human care throughout their lives.
The same difficult reality applies to belugas who have lived in captivity. Two belugas from Marineland Canada have reportedly died after being transferred to Shedd Aquarium. Another beluga who died there had already been living at the facility for many years. Now also Jellybean died after her august transfer from Canada. These deaths show how urgently safe, suitable and carefully prepared facilities are needed.
●We must stop the capturing of wild dolphins for entertainment.
●We must stop the breeding of animals for shows.
●We must help make it possible to build real sanctuaries.
●But we must also face the reality of the animals already trapped in captivity.
Until genuine sanctuaries are ready, safe and professionally managed facilities may be the only realistic immediate option. This is not about defending dolphinariums or the entertainment industry. It is about giving the animals who are already here the best care and space available right now.
Rejecting every available location without providing a ready alternative does not save the animals. It can leave them suffering for even longer in deteriorating tanks.
This is not about winning an argument between humans. It is about refusing to let animals become victims of that argument.
