When I first started doing some work with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society ...

Oh - you know those moments when you are working out how long ago something was and you get the shock of realising that it is MUCH longer than you thought ... just had that ...

... 20 years ago ... I was troubled by the name of the organisation and the logo - the reference to 'preservation' just had me thinking of jam - and the design was very much aimed at different audience than me ... Well, the team at Hedgehog House have now done the transformation! Looking at the new logo - it feels like we have leapt into the 21st century at last!

Logos can be powerful tools - and I look forward to seeing this one crop up everywhere. Much thanks must go to Ann Ross - who works under the title 'The Future is Unmown' ... I have long admired her work, capturing important stories about nature with real wit and wisdom - check out the website!

The BHPS website is changing - incorporating the new feel. But there will be no waste - the old design of leaflets will continue to be used until they are all gone - so for a while there might be a bit of a mixture!

I was going to write about loads of other things for this update, but actually, BHPS news is winning out ... because there are other changes going on that will hopefully mean you hear an awful lot more about the work we do for hedgehogs. Up until now it has been CEO Fay and myself who have handled the media - but that was just too much, in particular for Fay, who has an organisation to run. So we recruited Imogen Buller - the first ever communications officer at the BHPS. I am so looking forward to seeing how this amplifies out presence ...

And if you would like to help the BHPS ... well ... here is your chance. The charity has opportunities for two new Trustees to join the board. This important voluntary position (expenses covered though) is how I first started working more directly with the BHPS.

In particular - we are looking for people with experience in fundraising and compliance .... please follow THIS LINK if you are interested.

I wanted to write more about the Mammal Society conference - about my trip to Shepreth yesterday - about the talk I did at Into the Wild festival at the weekend ... and even my short holiday in Dorset (my paddle boarding experience was quite brief!)

If you want to see more of me (!!) - drop into Twitter or Instagram ... not all about hedgehogs over on those platforms!

And I will be back here before too long - hope you have all managed to grab some holiday this summer!
