Coming to the end of Hedgehog Awareness Week and I thought it worth a moment to share some of the resources available to further your, well, awareness!

The picture is gratuitous! A Prickly Affair has been published in USA (as The Hedgehog's Dilemma - which was actually my preferred title) - and in the Netherlands and Poland. The book is about the natural history of hedgehogs as told through my experience doing research and also meeting people who are even more obsessive than me!!! Got rave reviews from Jeanette Winterson and ... Ann Widdecombe - first time those two have agreed upon anything!

The book called Hedgehog is about the iconography of the animal, and the Hedgehog Book, from Graffeg is part of a great series of well designed books on UK wildlife. (links are for illustrative purposes - please use your local bookshop if you can)

But there is far more than just books (and these updates!) - I point you towards the British Hedgehog Preservation Society website on which you will find many leaflets to view digitally or print out to share among neighbours.

And the campaign that the BHPS runs with the Peoples Trust for Endangered Species - Hedgehog Street - has an amazing amount of really good information. If you sign up and become a 'champion' then you get access to even more and can join in with the community of like minded souls.

If that is something you enjoy - then I also recommend you visit the Hedgehog Highways Facebook page I set up - and which is run with my wonderful moderators, Rose and Jaqueline. Here is a place to ask questions as to the best ways of getting hogs into your garden - as it is full of people who have done just that!

If you are at university of have children at school - another really important way of sharing awareness is through the Hedgehog Friendly Campus programme - I was there at the launch in Sheffield a few years back and have been amazed at the zing that keeps it growing!

That should give you plenty to absorb over the long weekend! Hope you enjoy a good read - and see you in the new carolean age!
