At the risk of stretching the patience of the lovely signatories to this petition ... I will tell you a little bit more about the Witney Hedgehog Day - taking place on Sunday 13th from 12-5pm in the Corn Exchange ...
The idea sprang from the wonderful work by my neighbours at LEAF who ran a Hedgehog Bake-Off earlier this year which attracted amazing interest. LEAF are working to help connect the gardens of Florence Park - Hedgehog Highways are becoming a staple of all local conservation work ... which is, in large part, thanks to the attention that you have helped draw to the issue.
For Sunday, though, I am ramping things up a little - and as you can see from the photograph - there are some amazing prizes for those who produce the best cakes. Thank you so much to the amazing Pam Ayres and Nick Cope for their generosity.
In a shock move, the Hedgehog Day will feature more than just hedgehogs - though I am thrilled that the amazing girls from Hedgehog Friendly Town are coming - but so are the local Mammal Group, Badger Group - the RSPB, BBOWT, Butterfly Conservation Trust - Windrush and Wychwood conservation teams - and Meadow in my Garden
My request - other than the usual, to keep the petition alive - is to spread the word about the Hedgehog Day ... I am slightly nervous that there will only be one cake ... and also worried that there might be 100! That will make the tasting and judging quite a job!!!
