Yesterday was an interesting day. Florence Park Community Centre hosted a 'Great Hedgehog Bake-Off and Fancy Dress Party' at which I was to be doing some speaking and judging. I have loads of photographs I took of wonderful cakes and costumes - but what I choose to highlight in this update is even more exciting!

A woman had read about the event on the last update and travelled all the way from Stoke - in part to share in the feast of great cakes - but also to share something with me.

Through this campaign she was aware of the need to make holes for hedgehogs (as you all are!) and needed to replace some of her own fencing. A company local to her, Fabcast Fencing, said that they had got some hedgehog friendly gravel boards - and this is the photograph she wanted to share.

Now their website has yet to catch up with their creation - but they have them - they can make them - and this is so utterly and completely wonderful. It made me day (as did the cakes, the cast of children dressed up like hedgehogs, the soon to be launched Naturehoods campaign from Earthwatch - and meeting my local MP Anneliese Dodds - who was there as a parent of hedgehog loving kids rather than in official capacity and confounded my prejudice by being brilliant ... in fact I think there will be another update about the party soon!)

One small company in Stoke can step up and help hedgehogs - let's see about spreading the word a bit further. I have written to every fencing company and DIY store in Oxfordshire as part of my HedgeOX campaign ... what can you do? It might be that we cannot rely on Government to make the changes we need - it might be down to just us ... so lets keep the pressure up and get those holes spreading!
