While I wait for the attention of Minister - and for the petition to creep up just a little bit further ... we are 90% of the way there ... I thought I might as well just get on with making the change I want to see!

I run an Oxfordshire campaign called HedgeOX - and as part of this, I have been encouraging people to make holes in walls and fences - to help hedgehogs, of course.

But some walls are rather substantial ... so I have borrowed a drill, bought a (terrifyingly expensive) diamond tipped drill bit, and started to help with these more challenging barriers to hedgehog movement.

Yesterday I responded to a request from an elderly couple living in north Oxford - they have been talking to their neighbours (always a good starting point!) and they know hedgehogs were in the area last summer - but their garden was inaccessible ...

My wife came along with her camera - and so did a neighbour who is also a builder ... I thought for my first hole it would be better to have someone to stop me being an idiot on hand - especially if it was going to be immortalised on film.

And here is the film we made!

I should point out that it took an hour ... so don't be fooled into thinking it is easy work!

What would be great is for people not to have to do this, though - for all walls and fences to come equipped with hedgehog holes ... and that is why you are here - that is why the petition is so important - so please, as ever, share and share and lets get to half a million and get government to concentrate on something other than Brexit for a while!

Thanks for all your support - and to Zoe for making the film. And thanks to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and the Felix Byam Shaw Foundation for making the work possible.
