Help Protect Sunset Woods Park: Downsize the Albion-Jacobs Development in Highland Park

The Issue

The Albion-Jacobs Project (also known as the Karger Center redevelopment project) will be a massive 171-unit development adjacent to Sunset Woods Park. The proposed building is 5-stories facing east to Green Bay Road and 6-stories in height facing west onto Sunset Park. It is approximately 2 1/2 times the size of the McGovern House Apartments on Central Avenue. As concerned residents of Highland Park, we feel this development is far too large for the lot size and location.  The building will loom over Sunset Park and negatively affect light, noise, congestion, drainage and parking around Sunset Woods Park as well as the nearby residential area.  We ask the Highland Park City Council to downsize the project for the benefit of the community.  This development should be no more than 4-stories tall with maximum setbacks from the park to preserve the special nature of Sunset Woods Park and maintain the unique character of Highland Park.
