HELP PICKERING GET A NEW SKATEPARK

0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!

The City of Pickering has put the plans, as well as the budget, for a new skatepark on the back burner for far too long. They are underestimating it's worth and have overlooked it for years. It can be, and has been a place where many young people come together as strangers to do something they love. Not only developing long lasting friendships, but learning and keeping out of trouble all the while. This is community. It's time Pickering seriously set aside a budget for a skatepark and actually followed through with a plan.

It seems as though Pickering cares about soccer, baseball, basketball etc. giving people who play common sports ample choice of where to do so. However the city has limited skateboarders to a small poorly aged skatepark.
The youth do more now than ever, but they can't grow up skateboarding in this park. It hasn't aged well at all, with cracks and incorrect angles it's a skater's nightmare to say the least. This will kill any interest a newcomer might have, and I have seen it first-hand more than once. It's a shame to see the next generation get upset and go home with their parents because a crack that shouldn't be there in the first place, is indeed there.
Not to mention well seasoned skaters, myself included have fallen victim to this parks flaws. Literally, and in plentiful.

I'm starting this petition to try to open they eyes of the City of Pickering Council that there is a community who cares, who will utilize, and who will help to inspire the next generation of youth who decide that they want to roll on four wheels rather then hit a baseball. People travel to different towns and cities to go to their skatepark, it's time to put Pickering on the map!

On Jan 31st. Pickering is holding yet another Recreation and Parks Planning Session. Help a new skatepark be at the top of the list.

Thanks for your time everyone.
