Help Mike Adeleke study Computer Science!

The Issue

Want to be a hero?

I have been out of school for over a year and a half but need your help to go back! In order to do so, I need to raise at least $4,500 to be able to pay off past due tuition to be eligible for student loans. Let's make this happen!

Please back my fundraiser here! The CEO of Koofers did

What makes you different than any other college student who is struggling to pay for school right now?

Times are tough and many people right now are struggling to pay for college. However, just about all of those students are struggling while still in school! I am not in school!Because of our financial situation, we were not eligible at the time for most student loans to delay payment. Meaning, we had to pay tuition out of pocket right away. That made it so that when we were unable to pay it all, I was sidelined.

I am now raising money not to pay off tuition like most students but to once againbecome eligible for school by paying for tuition that is past due! With your support we can make that happen!

What major are you pursuing and what do you plan to do with it?

I am pursuing a major in Computer Science. I love programming have been learning as much as I can for the past year! I am about to finish my two courses at Thinkful.com, have taken a course at the Starter League, and racked up many points on Codecademy and Treehouse.

My goal is to become a software engineer in Silicon Valley! While out of school, I discovered the magical world of startups and the Mecca of it all. I plan on being a software engineer, a tech startup founder, and an advocate of kids of all ages - especially minority children - to be involved in Computer Science and the greatest opportunity of our lifetimes!

Are you the first person in your family to go to college? If so, what does that mean for you and your family? if not, what makes your story unique?

My parents came to this country in 1992. I will be the first in my family to attend a 4-year American University and graduate. Anyone with foreign parents knows how much they value education and Nigerians are very high on that list! I will be making both them and myself very proud!

Why only the tilt amount? How do you plan to pay moving forward? Are these the last credits you need?

Yes! So the tilt amount is aimed to be able to pay off old balances to once again be eligible for student loans. I believe that if I am able to tilt this amount I can go on to get more funding from there by once again being eligible for student loans and scholarships. The growth of things like Scholly and Tuition.io makes the process of finding scholarships and managing tuition so much easier!

Do you have some sort of confirmation from UPenn that you are an admitted student?

:) I wish! My number one target for school is UPenn! I have:

  • Made multiple trips to the University
  • Audited courses and met with Professors
  • Been working with the Penn Tech Entrepreneurship Club helping to organize coffee chats with Penn founders and students, Dave Tisch formerly of TechStars NYC and Ryan Holiday of American Apparel coming in April, a startup trip to NYC to see startups of Penn alumni such as Artsicle, Venmo, Warby Parker, and Fitocracy, as well as bringing Recess to Penn in April * breathes *
  • Have my startup Domi about to launch with over 300 users at Drexel right next door
  • Made many friends as I stayed with my my brother who goes to UPenn

However, I am also looking to transfer to the University of Virginia and the University of Maryland which is known for their stellar hacker culture!

How can you guarantee that the money I donate will go towards your tuition and education rather than beer money?

Pinky swear? If I am successful, I will be more than willing to share with my backers all the details regarding where the money goes through every step of the process. I do not think that this will be an issue since I am extremely motivated to go back to school and most schools have beer there anyway :)
