As a lifelong student, there have been a few teachers who changed how I see the world. Erik Maloney is one of them. Like any good collaborator, he pushed my thinking on our work, and he has enriched my understanding of what could be done in our prisons. But his lessons extend beyond work. On many occasions I’ve observed Erik meet and inspire students who come into the prison. It’s like watching an art form—he mixes laughter and smiles with moments of profound seriousness.
