An update to existing petition

 A concrete solution for 24-hour warming: A mobile overnight shelter.

Thank you to everyone who has signed to support a 24-hour municipal winter warming center here in Portsmouth. While daytime hours at the public library are incredibly helpful, the overnight hours remain a critical gap where lives are at risk from extreme cold.

To make a 24-hour solution a reality quickly, I am updating our push with a practical proposal for the city: The Portsmouth Mobile Warming Initiative.

Instead of waiting for real estate zoning or expensive building renovations, Portsmouth could utilize a surplus city transit bus or public works vans to act as safe, overnight warming vehicles. Parked in a designated municipal lot during freezing nights, a retrofitted vehicle could provide immediate, lifesaving shelter, hot drinks, and basic safety monitoring.
