While Coop's story is indeed unique, he knows he’s not alone. According to baseball researchers Doug Gladstone and Max Effgen, there are more than 500 former MLB players who still don’t receive a pension.

By going public with his story now, Coop is helping to open more eyes around the country to the plight of these men who gave their lives to the game of baseball.
