Rain Couldn't Keep Volunteers Away on Earth Day but Some Areas Remain Inaccessible and Endangered
Annual Earth Day Community Cleanup
We can think of no better way to celebrate Earth Day than with our annual spring cleaning at our beloved historic Eastside community cemetery.
It's a collaborative effort.
Volunteers from Youth Lives Matter, Keep Elbert County Beautiful (Keep America Beautiful), Jim-Ree Museum, and throughout the community come together to help restore the natural beauty of our sacred landscape.
It rained this year, but...
We cut grass, pick weeds, trim branches, collect litter and debris. One year, we built a garden bed and planted a tree. Our dedicated volunteers come out to help rain or shine.
It's amazing how we manage to cover a lot of ground in just a few hours!
If only we could clean up the whole cemetery!
However, there's an area we haven't been able to access, Parcel E32-037. This part of the cemetery is privately owned. Although descendants and heirs have a legally implied easement on sacred burial ground, we respectfully await written permission to access the property.
We still need your help!
We have a lot of work to do to restore pride and honor to Pinetown Cemetery, but we need your help to gain access to all of our sacred burial grounds.
