In April this year Parliament made it possible for an individual to petition the National Assembly. The seventh National Assembly will assemble soon, enabling me to submit a petition to the Speaker.

Transnet Freight Rail’s concession for the use of the permanent way between George and Knysna will affect residents and visitors to the Garden Route for the next twenty-five years.

The consequential differences between restoring the railway for the steam train and opening the permeant way for non-motorised mobility, together with an independent steam park, are stark.

That is why the matter needs broader careful debate.
