Petition updateInstall CCTV cameras on passenger decks3 YEARS LATER AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

P&O Ferries have not responded to our request and still people are at risk. Here is a comment posted 3years ago today and which should be heeded. We will not stop until it is: The tragedy of Richard Fearnside's disappearance at sea leaves grieving family and friends with so many unanswered questions. The petitioner states that CCTV cameras are already fitted inside P&O ferries for stock security reasons, at tax-free shops. As a former seafarer I confidently anticipate that, as a result of earlier major loss of life, the UK Maritime & Coastguard (MCA) regulations likely now require CCTV cameras to be installed on certain outside areas of UK-registered passenger ferries, e.g. in the vicinity of bow and stern vehicle access doors. If so, it surely makes sense for the regulations to be extended to require CCTV coverage of all open decks, to help alert crew to prevent any further unexplained loss of persons from UK-trading passenger ferries. I suggest that instead of just petitioning one operator in P&O Ferries, the UK Minister of State for Trade should also be petitioned, in the hope that immediate action is required to be taken by all operators of short-sea passenger vessels, UK- and non-UK registered, trading to UK ports. I hope that the Minister's department is able to urgently address this matter, and that the mandatory installation of outside deck cameras in such ferries, will give Richard Fearnside's relatives some deserved peace.
