Petition updatePremier: Please Save Bushland in Shenton Park, WAWAPC Condemns Bushland

The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) will allow LandCorp to develop Lemnos St Bush! This will fragment, degrade and more than halve this important ecological corridor.

It is a devastating and despicable decision. By destroying the bushland, both LandCorp and the WAPC have ignored their own planning policies, the expert advice and the wishes of the community.

The Commission members overturned the earlier decision of their own specialist Statutory Planning Committee (SPC) which would have saved most of the bushland and over ¾ of the linkage.

No explanation for WAPC’s decision has been provided or is even required by law. This is just another example of how broken the planning process is.

The development will have a long lasting and significant negative impact on the local environment and wildlife. A full environmental impact assessment of the impacts of the development has never been conducted or is even required by law.

The decision, like so many recently made by the WAPC, is one of simple greed. There was plenty of space to develop, to do a wonderful infill project, yet LandCorp chose to develop the bushland. There is no reason for it, except so developers can make more money.

The WAPC has failed in its duty to act in the best interests of the community and the environment.

LandCorp and the members of the WAPC should hang their heads in shame.
