🦔 Another Hedgehog Trapped – Cadent, When Will You Listen?

Over the weekend, a hedgehog in our Norfolk village fell into an uncovered Cadent Gas excavation. It was trapped and vulnerable—left in a deep trench with no way out.

Thankfully, a sharp-eyed local found it in time, and it was rushed to a hedgehog hospital. But let’s be honest: this was a lucky escape.

Next time, we may not be so lucky. And there will be a next time unless Cadent changes.

We’ve been asking Cadent Gas to cover their holes properly and take wildlife safety seriously. So far? A lot of vague PR fluff—and zero action on the ground.

Raised barriers may tick a health & safety box for people, but they do nothing to protect small wild animals like hedgehogs, who can slip through gaps and fall in overnight.

We need real action:

✅ Cover open excavations overnight

✅ Use wildlife-safe fencing

✅ Train workers to check for trapped animals

✅ Work with wildlife organisations on best practice

🐾 Tag Cadent Gas on social media and ask them to #CoverTheHoles

📧 Write to them directly—our voices are working, but we need more of them

Let’s not wait for another preventable tragedy.

Let’s push Cadent to do the right thing—before more hedgehogs pay the price.

Thank you for standing up for the spiky little souls that can’t stand up for themselves. 💚

Together, we’ve already passed 200,000 signatures—but we need to keep the pressure on. Our hedgehogs don’t have a voice, but we do.

With gratitude,
