When I looked at this page last evening, it had 7 signatures. Now, there is almost 1000. The news of the EpiPen price hike continues to permeate the mainstream news feed, which is helping the fuel the fire that we need to keep this petition circulating. EpiPen literally costs less than $10 to make, and the fact that Mylan is utilizing their position as the sole manufacturer to price gouge their consumers on a life-saving medication is disgusting. The only person defending them is (unsurprisingly) Martin Shkreli. Great. Way to strengthen their case, dude. His argument is that the company now has an opportunity to make a profit and the insurance companies should be footing the bill. This raises a whole new set of issues: If a medication costs less than $10 to manufacture, and it sells for $100, isn't that a profit? If the pharmaceutical companies continue to charge ridiculous prices for a product and the insurance companies pay, doesn't that cost eventually get passed on to the consumer either way? Why do pharmaceutical companies have so much sway over life-or-death medications in the first place? (I'm leery of this one because of more government intervention, but at the same time, something has to be done.) I've been reading all of your comments-- you are all wise and passionate people, and none of you deserve to have to worry about yourselves or loved ones because of greed. Plain and simple. Please keep sharing this petition!! Let's send a message to these pharmaceutical companies once and for all!!!
