Fillingham was the Chief Executive of North Staffordshire NHS Trust. Having gone dizzy with the pound signs and the patient deaths, he made a move to the Trust in Bolton. Of course, Filllingham is one of those Chief Executives who believes he is above everyone. He tried his very best to cast aspersions on my character, to get me prosecuted, to egg Professor Rod Griffiths into reporting me to the GMC etc. I know this because the Deanery in the West Midlands accidentally sent me their entire file. So there were letters flying between them all. No doubt, Professor John Temple [ who still appears to be bossing the world around] won't like the fact that data just landed in my lap and I found out all they were trying to conceal. This is why the Data Protection Act is so useful. There is always some minion who will simply pack up papers and send them to you. One could argue that we could forget all this and "move on" just like the BMA wants us all to do. The problem though is this, if there is a fractured past in the NHS, if provides a fractured base for future generations. When we wonder why the NHS has stopped working properly, we need to ask ourselves who was held accountable for the mistakes made. In this case, John Temple swanned off and probably still believes everyone throws rose petals under his feet. Hope he fished that counselling card I left in his bin after he gave me a job in exchange for my silence. A job where management abused my good nature by forcing me to do hours and hours of unpaid waiting lists initiatives. After more than 100 hernia assessments, life just gets a tad boring after a while. Thanks Prof. In the end, even all the seniors around you seem impotent against the great powerful management directives. It was sad that I had to bite my lip when I really felt like saying "Man Up" to all of them. Then you discover, there are very few real men in medicine. They are written to teach many members of the public about how spineless our system can be. I don't drink alcohol but there used to be an amusing advert where everything looked different through a Smirnoff bottle. That is true in medico-politics. Everything looks perfect from the outside until you look through a good set of truth spectacles. When you do, you see the reality that those around you are merely versions of spineless creatures who should never have been entrusted with any responsibility at all. If you are in trouble, you are the hero in your own world. There is really no point in relying on your seniors or those in powerful management positions.
