The Conservative government is all about appearances. I've known this since the days of Virginia Bottomley. Now her relative Jez Hunt is spinning the media, we can understand why dressing up the reality is important. Ofcourse, no one can hide graveyards and expensive litigation anymore.
The person with the reputation and the silver hair greatness is ofcourse Rob Francis QC. He must earn a far bit with his dapper appearance and eloquent presentation. People are dazzled by debonair, handsome, stylish barristers with status and titles. I often wonder whether anyone questions Rob Francis or do they just take everything at face value like a teenager in love.
Rob Francis can be paid to argue either the NHS side or the Patients side. He has a lot of data in his brain and I often wonder how he takes advantage of so much data. NHS data, litigation data, Patient data, ,CQC data. His brain must be better than the beleaguered NHS database.
Here is his profile at the CQC http://www.cqc.org.uk/content/sir-robert-francis-qc . He is even President of the Patients Association. Well, its a shame that self confessed Freemason Sandy Macara isn't there too now. If he was, now that would be a data sharing party of importance. I worry about important people who sit in multiple places in the NHS and associated organisations. I often wonder why they couldn't recruit a fair minded guy with no vested interests from the local job centre. The Patients Association also had the Common Purpose queen Helena Kennedy, another lawyer.http://www.patients-association.org.uk/organizer/baroness-kennedy-of-the-shaws/ . What are all the lawyers doing on the Patients Association's panel. Again, couldn't they hire someone off the street who would be independent. These employment opportunities escape the establishment. When Virgin Healthcare 's Richard Branson sat around drinking coffee with these important lawyers, I started to wonder why Private Healthcare was suddenly involved. I think Richard has gone off to fly a balloon somewhere after kicking the Virgin whistleblower into touch at his regulatory body. http://www.personneltoday.com/hr/virgin-healthcare-denies-panicking-over-whistleblower-claim/
The statistics controversy has been interesting. The Patients Association claimed that 1 million people were neglected. The medical blogosphere at the time challenged this. Then so did channel 4 fact check
http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/uk/factcheck%2bpatient%2bneglect%2bnumbers/3323197.html . The rather lax attitude to statistic accuracy may be accidental or a purposeful way of pushing the privatisation agenda.
It seems that magnifying numbers is an interesting trait! It's reduces confidence in the NHS and encourages public approval of the privatisation agenda. We see the same trend when we look at the much debated statistics of Mid Staffordshire .

Anyway, one can see why the government needs their safe pair of hands. A barrister who once opted to defend the position of the doctor responsible for the Bristol scandal can achieve anything he wants to. It's admirable that the government can rely on him for everything. My question is this, do the public rely on him without question and is he the public's safe pair of hands?
