'My final question, Dr Lum is: what if it were you or your child, if you have children, listening to the testimony we have heard today and before of those who have gone through one, two, three, four, five or 10 years, hundreds of doctors, debilitating pain and suicidal thoughts because it was so bad? If it were your child, would you be satisfied with what we have been hearing today—that is, 'Just wait it out, and we might get around to doing something about it one day'? said Senator Reynolds, when questioning the Chief Medical Advisor at the Senate Hearing. The Senate Hearing in Sydney uncovered the hardships faced by those suffering from tick-borne illness in Australia. Most importantly it revealed that the denial and stigma surrounding Lyme-like illness needs to stop and patients need to be helped.
