I am very happy to let everyone know that Lily-Grace is now attending full days at her new school! She has been assigned to a new mobility officer who has not found the type and length of her cane to be an issue and is extremely positive and encouraging. Lily-Grace has already made three new friends at her new school. Recently, she asked her mom if her dolls were blind or sighted, and her mom told her they could be just like her. She then asked for white canes for them, too! Needless to say, her dad got busy and whipped up some doll-sized white canes! While it was hoped for that those in the Hambrook School community would change their attitude and embrace Lily-Grace for who she is, white cane included, this new situation has proved to be a better fit. The family is also glad to finally have some closure to what has been an emotionally charged ordeal. People may follow Lily-Grace and Project Brailler on facebook and twitter to continue to keep up with her progress. Lastly, we wish to offer a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who signed this petition and advocated on Lily-Grace's behalf and who understand the importance of the white cane in the lives of blind individuals. Stevie Wonder told the world last night at the Grammy Awards that everything needs to be made accessible to everyone with a disability. This is the dream of Lily-Grace and thousands of others like her! Please continue to help us make that dream a reality!
