Havering Council: Stop Allowing Hunting At Havering's Parks
The Issue
Recently, I was made aware of the fact that rabbit hunting is being allowed to take place at Bedfords Park, under the permission of Havering Council, who own the land. As somebody who has a passion for both animals and the planet, I was disgusted to learn that this cruel, inhumane practice was being allowed to take place in my own borough.
The hunting of rabbits and hares is exempt from the 2004 Hunting Act if carried out on land which "belongs to the hunter, or which he has been given permission to use for the purpose of hunting hares by the occupier or, in the case of unoccupied land, by a person to whom it belongs." Despite this, most people are vehemently opposed to it, with the killing of a wild animal in the name of "sport" being frowned upon by the vast majority of the British public. It therefore makes no sense that Havering Council, who are supposed to represent us, would allow this cruel, inhumane practice to take place despite the opposition.
We call upon Havering Council to stop allowing hunting on ALL of our parks, with immediate effect.
