A sad day for democracy in the UK. As noted in these pages, the sitting on the fence of the leader of the Labour Party showed totally irresponsible leadership.  His Party suffered accordingly. No-one knew where Jeremy Corbyn stood except to spend oodles of money without any idea from where it would come.  As noted here his Labour Party manifesto only mentioned the private sector in derogatory terms. The pound jumped up against the dollar. The UK stock market soared. I don't think those trends will continue and a huge crash will come.  Johnson is no economist nor are his supporters.

I had voted against the Lib Dem leader when I had the right to do so. As Corbyn, she is a decent person but no charisma of leadership skills whatsoever. She lost her seat in Scotland to the SNP who will now form Scotland's future outside of the UK and with the EU.

So we are left with a man who has no hesitation in lying (remember the Red Bus?) and one who will now 'Get BREXIT done' which, as argued here is the worst form of policy for the UK.  Arguments about free trade will continue for years (so no BREXIT done) and services that supported the UK economy will continue their slide toward Europe. Johnson only hope is that his great friend Trump, impeached in front of my eyes as I write), will come up with agreements.  Ha ha. The story of Trump is to deal once with a businessman and never come back again once that person has been dealt with ..usually not in their best interest.

The story of Johnson's victory has yet to be told but he will be there for at least 5 years, if not more.  Today I feel sad for my country with a glittering display of poor leadership during the election and to come.  Happily I have an escape route to Ireland because of my Irish grandfather.  But my fellow Brits?  The poor, the dispossessed, the ill will continue to suffer while the rich will get richer.

Au revoir mon pays and for whom my father fought bravely in the Second World War.
