I feel increasingly sad as I write these lines. The UK population now see the dangers, as listed in this petition, of leaving the EU.
But the way forward to staying in the EU is currently blocked for three main reasons:
1. The Main UK political parties are in turmoil. The Labour Party grudgingly admits a new Referendum is needed. But is worried the same scenario of rejection and division would occur as in 2016. And the Russians are still waiting in the wings to disrupt, as as are the racists and facsists. The Conservative Party is split and has no idea what to do now its Chequers deal has been rejected by the EU.
2. The UK applied to leave the EU. So why would the EU compromise when it is worried that the other 27 or so EU countries might also start to nag for more favorable changes too? If I were an EU citizen, not a UK one, I would also say 'well you voted to leave, sorry but goodbye". No deal!
3. The UK Parliament is too scared to revoke Article 50 and stay in the EU because they are afraid voters would reject them since they reneged on the 2016 Referendum. There is also the issue of Prime Minister that both May and Corbyn wishto have, even if their country breaks up beneath them. Scary!
There is little doubt under any of the above scenarios that Northern Ireland and Scotland would leave the United Kingdom...Wales too even though it voted Leave is now seeing the disaster that will happen to it with zero funds from the European Investment Bank.
It is customary at this point for the writer, myself, to provide the solution. But as I started above I feel the way forward is blocked. You Dear Reader have supported my Petition for the past year but we are still small in number. We need millions of UK citizens to support such a petition to have any influence at all. Since our only hope is to convince the UK Parliament (the UK House of Lords is convinced) to revoke Article 50 and leave the insanity that has falled on our beloved country.
